Overview
The deep forests of northern Maine are home to some of the best wilderness areas east of the Mississippi. This “north country” is steeped in the tradition of fine old sporting camps and a long history of excellent hunting and fishing. Our outfitter here acquired one of these great camps several years ago and has painstakingly restored it to its former grandeur. Situated on a beautiful lake and surrounded by a vast wilderness reserve, they offer guided hunts for Black bear and Canadian moose.
Lodging
The accommodations are very comfortable and the food service is superb. Clients appreciate the fact that such a high quality hunting destination still exists in the northeastern United States; is accessible by driving; allows them to easily bring their meat home; and doesn’t require any international border crossings.
Getting There
Drive to the lodge on Eagle Lake, or fly into Presque Isle, Maine
where you will be met at the airport.
License
Maine Black bear licenses are available “over-the-counter” for approximately $200. Maine moose licenses can be acquired through the lottery, bought at auction, or available on a very limited basis as lodge/outfitter tags
Success Rate
Typically, the bears here aren’t huge, but the hunts are highly successful and very enjoyable. On the other hand, the moose trophy quality is very good, with some truly exceptional trophies taken every season.
